Mr. James Henderson, a Director of Gladstone Pacific Nickel Ltd (“GPNL”) since 2005, was unanimously voted as the new Chairman after the recent resignation of GPNL’s Chairman, Mr. Clive Palmer and Director, Mr. Geoffrey Smith.
This followed the announcement that GPNL had received a proposal to enter into a scheme of arrangement with Resource Development International Ltd (“RDI”).
RDI, an unlisted company controlled by Mr. Palmer, which was recently formed to acquire substantial iron ore, gas, steel and nickel interests. RDI is hoping to raise US$5 billion from a proposed IPO and listing on the Hong Kong and Australian stock exchange. This is being planned by RDI for later this year.
Both Mr. Palmer, a significant shareholder of RDI, and Mr. Smith, a full time employee of Mr. Palmer’s Mineralogy, resigned from GPNL to focus on the proposed RDI listing.
